Couple/Marriage Counseling

Our goal is to help you achieve your relationship goal and regain the level of emotional growth you aim for yourself and your relationships. We employ empirical approaches to couple /marriage counselling with effective outcomes.

Premarital Counseling

Premarital counseling is a specialized therapy that helps intending couples identify and address any potential areas of conflict in a relationship early on, before those issues become serious concerns, and teach partners effective strategies for discussing and resolving conflict. Studies have shown that couple who had participated in some type of premarital counseling programs were 31% less likely to divorce.

Domestic Violence

Domestic violence also known as intimate partner violence, spousal abuse, and domestic abuse, occurs when one partner abuses the other. There are many reasons for the behavior. One motive is to gain control over one’s partner. Domestic violence could be verbal abuse, physical abuse, sexual violence, emotional abuse, psychological abuse or/and financial abuse. There is a false belief that domestic violence occurs mostly among the low economic status but the truth is that domestic violence occurs across the entire spectrum of wealth and social status.

At Brookside Counseling Center our priority is to assist the victim/survivor in formulating strategy and plans to get to safety with their children. Our services are confidential and anonymous.

It may be possible for some relationships that have been characterized by abuse to experience some level of healing and growth through therapy, although this does not lead to continuation of the relationship. Therapeutic intervention such as Emotional-focused therapy may be designed to address distress in adult relationships, offering techniques for couples to learn how to address relationship conflict AFTER the abuser has undergone treatments for aggression and violence.

Note:

If you feel a friend or family member may be experiencing abuse, or you see something, we encourage you to say something. It may be best to let them know, privately, that you are there to listen if they need support or help. A simple show of support may help the person experiencing abuse feel safe enough to share. Nobody should have to live with this trauma and fear!!!
